History

Historic Summery

Calvary Baptist Church began as a small group of believers meeting in their homes.  On October 23, 1955 the church moved from the homes to a building erected on a piece of land that Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilcox's had donated.  Work on the building began on April 27, 1956 and was completed in 1960.  From the dedication Sunday of December 4, 1960 until February 21, 1999 Calvary Baptist Church called the building home.  Six pastors stood behind the pulpit which was the centerpiece of the building.  They were Howard Shumate, Gerald Barlow, Raleigh Doom, Robert Riedy, David Sweeting, and Richard VanGorden.  Together we, the congregation with our pastors, used the church building as a place of worship, fellowship, and teaching of God's Word.  We cried together at funerals, and prayer meetings.  We rejoiced together at weddings, baptisms and social gatherings.  We came weekly to worship God and meet Him.  Generations of believers came through the doors to be with God and his people, and many unbelievers heard the good news of the gospel and were saved.  We praise God for his faithfulness for those forty-four years we served him together.  Calvary Baptist Church continued to grow and the surrounding Marysville community did with it. It became clear that the existing church building would not serve the needs of our growing church and community.  In 1995 Pastor VanGorden brought the vision to the congregation of constructing a larger building which would meet these expanding needs.  On May 11, 1997 we broke ground on a new church building and on February 21, 1999 we had our first worship service in it.  Wayne Guynn became the seventh pastor of Calvary Baptist Church and joined us on June 20, 1999.  We praise God that God has been faithful in the last six years we have been worshiping and serving him in our new facility.  We have been able to continue God's work that the first worshipers started on the Sunday morning in 1955.
